Fresh stalk pathway
Goal: arrive crisp, green, and heavy. Water is quality.
- Shade within minutes
Collect cut stalks into shallow crates in the shade — sun-scorched blades yellow within hours.
- Sort & grade in-field
Set aside damaged, thin, or yellowed stalks. Uniform lots command uniform prices.
- Trim to spec
Cut roots flush, top leaves to buyer length (typically 30–45 cm), strip loose sheaths.
- Hydrate
Mist lightly or stand bases in clean water; never soak whole stalks — trapped water breeds rot.
- Pre-cool fast
Move to cold storage the same day; every hour at 30°C costs a day of shelf life.
